A gala dance special to raise funds for the victims of Grenfell

The choreographer and 'Strictly'judge Arlene Phillips has organised a dance gala to raise funds for victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. Held at London’s Adelphi Theatre on Sunday, July 30, the gala brings together stars from many different areas of dance with the single aim to support those who have been affected by the terrible tragedy.

The gala will include dancers from The Royal Ballet, featuring Edward Watson; stars from Strictly Come Dancing , including Ore Oduba, Oti Mabuse and Giovanni Pernice; Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures; The Maryinsky Ballet, featuring Xander Parish; Akram Khan; Ballet Black; Rambert; Adam Garcia; Rina Kanehara and Aitor Arrieta, English National Ballet’s 2017 Emerging Dancers; Danny Collins and Rachel Muldoon in an excerpt from Drew McOnie’s Jekyll and Hyde ; Tommy Franzén and Xena Gusthart; Boy Blue Entertainment, ZooNation; Dance Dance Dance champions Jonny Labey and Chrissie Brooke.

Phillips said: “I remember waking up in the morning and thinking, ‘here goes another day’, only to switch on the TV to watch the news and suddenly see an image so powerful you can’t move, knowing so many lives have been changed forever. As the days went by I began to wonder if there was a way that I could help, maybe even make a small difference, and I thought dance is my world, my life, so how could I galvanise and bring the dance community together to raise funds for those who need it most, now and into the future.”
